    First Time Setup

Okay I've been trying to set up Linux for the first time with one big fat goal. Get my wireless to work.

Right now I'm plugged in with an ethernet cord stretching across my house which can not stay.

First I installed ndiswrapper so I could get my driver to install but now I have no clue how to get my drivers wrapped up and running. My card uses the "ENLWI-N ENPWI-N Drivers" found at Encore Electronics, Inc. This site contains a Linux driver, however I have got absolutely no clue how to set it up. However it also has a windows driver which I used on my Windows side. In any case I need some help finding out how to either install the Linux driver found on that site or getting the Windows one set up.

Sorry for being a noob :[

Third year Comp Sci student, think I'd be able to set up a wireless network on my own XD

okay i just located my .inf, .cat, and .sys files off a disk that came with the card and I put them on my desktop. however when I call ndiswrapper it says that I do not have it. And when I try to reinstall ndiswrapper it says it already exists. SO I have no clue what is going on.

    Code:
    bamrocket@bamrocket-desktop:~$ cd Desktop
    bamrocket@bamrocket-desktop:~/Desktop$ ndiswrapper -i rt2860.inf
    Error: no ndiswrapper utils found!
    bamrocket@bamrocket-desktop:~/Desktop$

Since this is a wireless n card, there is not yet native Linux support. So you either use NDISwrapper with the WinXP driver, or you can install the Linux driver from the manufacturer. The instructions for installing it are included with the driver.

As for the NDISwrapper error. You don't say which distro you are using, but you may need to include the path to the NDISwrapper application. Try this command to find where it is ocated.
    Code:
    locate ndiswrapper
Being a comp science student, I would think that you want to try installing the Linux driver. If you try, and run into problems, start a thread on it in the wireless section, for more help You can't have both drivers running, so if you want to try thr Linux driver, you will have to remove NDISwrapper

Why are you using ndiswrapper....I think that if you are going to make a move to linux (or even use it part time) you should learn how to use it...which includes how to install the linux drivers and not short cut and use ndiswrapper.

    what distro are you using?
    Bodhi 1.3 & Bodhi 1.4 using E17
Dell Studio 17, Intel Graphics card, 4 gigs of RAM, E17
