Just installed linux and have a few problems, help?

I just installed Linx ubuntu on my Dell inspiron B130 and it works great, my only problem is how do I install my drivers? I downloaded them from dell.com what when I put the disk into the drive and click on them it says "an error occurred while loading archive". Thanks for any help, I'm just trying to get my wireless card to work.

    Welcome to the forums!

Lots of drivers are already included with the kernel, while some drivers need to be installed separately.

Check this HowTo for a number of different ways to install software under Linux, depending of course on what is being installed, and what distro is used.

Generally, it's best for new users to use the default package tool that came with their distribution whenever possible. Ubuntu uses APT by default I think, which can be accessed through the command line, or with the Synaptic GUI front-end for it.

If you are installing drivers from source, check post #2 in the HowTo for instructions. Also be sure to check any readme files that are included in the package for any specific installation instructions.

Hope you have fun with Linux.

You shouldn't have to get rid of Windows to make the Wireless work in Ubuntu. This might sound like a stupid question, but did you go to the Network Manager which is located to the top right hand of screen(looks like dual moniters) on the taskbar and right click on the icon and left click on enable wireless. then left click on the icon again after closing previous window and seeing the available Network connection you have and left click on the connect button.

If non of that is working for you, I suggest you repost your problem in the wireless section of the forum, as the guys and gals there have helped me immensely on connecting my laptops wirelessly. Good Luck

I used to edit my wireless cards manually but I cannot remember off hand where the config files are.

    What happens when you enter
    Code:
    ifup wlan0
    or
    Code:
    ifup ath0
