    Check DistroWatch.com for information about lots of different Linux distributions and their download links.

    To install it, burn the downloaded ISO file to disk as an image, then boot with the newly created installation CD.

    Can you where can i download the vm ware linux so that i can practice on the dvd instead of installing on the laptop.

    I think you're confusing your terms there. VMware is a virtual-machine software that runs inside of a host operating system (like Microsoft Windows or Linux) and creates a simulated computer environment where you can install a "guest" operating system.

    The ability to run an operating system from the disc without installing is generally called a "LiveCD" or "LiveDVD." Most major distributions of Linux have live versions, such as Fedora, openSuSE and Ubuntu. More information on all of these (including download links) can be found on the website mentioned earlier, DistroWatch.com.
