    Hello and Help!

I am incredibly uninformed and new to Linux. I recently tried to upgrade from Ubuntu 8.04 to 8.10. Now when I attempt to boot the process hangs at abaout 40% then finishes and presents a black screen with white letters showing the following message:
    Start Up
    Loading, please wait.....
    Kinit: name to-dev-t(/ev/disk/by-uuid? 2d32708a-4doc-4e55-bb69-e01e665d8242)=hda5(3,5)
Kinit: trying to resume from /dev/disk/vy uuid/2832708a-4d0c-4e55-bb69-e01e665d8242
Kinit: No resume image, doing normal boot
    Ubuntu 8.10 bill-desktop tty1
    bill-desktop login:

Anyone have any idea what I need to do to get the update to work and the system to boot normally?

    Hello and Welcome!

Sounds like your system is trying to get you to login to a text-based environment. What happens when you try to login with your username and password? Do you get anything after using
    Code:
    startx
If you can't get access, I would suggest starting a thread in the Ubuntu portion of the Forum as you will get more viewings.
