    Welcome to the forums!

If you install WinXP on a machine that's already running Linux, the Windows bootloader will overwrite the MBR leaving you only able to boot into Windows. It's generally better to install Windows first, then install Linux, but it's possible to do it either way.

If needed after installing Windows, you can probably use the SuperGRUB LiveCD to get your GRUB bootloader setup and working again so that it boots into Linux, or Windows.

Hope you have fun with it.

This method has worked for me when I had a situation where Linux was installed first, and Windows was installed 2nd. Windows MBR overwrote grub and supergrub disk was a quick fix for reinstalling grub with the capability of booting up Linux or Windows.
