Amarok alternatives?
Is there any alternatives to Amarok yet?
I am aware that some Gnome users even use this program.
This is more evidence of the sorry state in Linux regarding music applications and players.
I am talking about players that are equivalent to iTunes and Windows Media Player.
I don't know why there isn't more critiques given to this horrible excuse for a program. It's not configurable for mp3 players in MTP format.
The program crashes or doesn't configure properly.
When you try to add to a collection, you receive messages that it is doing it but then it fails and gives ambiguous error messages.
This program has gone through several updates with NO changes and the same annoying procedures and messages.
You have to use your player in usb mode and then it loses all of the features.
Is no one working on any alternatives so Linux users can stop using the WORST program in Linux?!?

Does it work with ipods and mp3 players in MTP format?
I have even witnessed users (people I know) have problems configuring Amarok for ipods and I've never been able to get it to work properly with a mp3 player in MTP format.
I can get the mp3 player to mount and for the stored media to load in the 'Device' Playlist section. After that, nothing works.
I would switch to any debian or rpm-based distro if only to get an media player to work with my mp3 player or ipod (whatever I have to use).
I really don't have a preference anymore because anything I've tried thus far has failed to work and I don't want to go back to Windows.

Well, I wanted something that has a library like iTunes, Windows Media Player and Amarok. But, Amarok is so atrocious so I guess I am stuck to using VLC.

If you don't mind a mono app, try Banshee...
I can't say that I had a problem with Amarok though other than the fact it is a KDE app and I use either Gnome or XFCE....If we hit that bullseye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate! (Zapp Brannigan)
My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.

Well, I could just use VLC but I wanted the library and extra features that Amarok and Rhythmbox offers.
Actually, I have had Amarok work before but the effort and frustration in getting it to work has turned me off it completely. I have new (distro) installs so I had to re-configure my mp3 player in Amarok.
Sometimes, it would detect it but most often, I had to set it up manually in the Settings of the 'Configure Amarok' section.
Trying in MTP mode would result in a playlist that is not playable or transferable to a collection list and many other problems that should be avoidable if the program is any good, imho. I have not heard of any Amarok users using their player in MTP mode but if any are, all the power to them. Imho, the program is way overrated and not usable at all.
