Help with Linux lite Acer Aspire one including messenger, Amarok and distributions

Ive always been raised on windiws so when i got a Acer it was a bit of a shock to install new applications.

First of all when ever i try to sign in using Messenger i jut get a message saying not authorized. any idea why? my user name and password are both correct. It connects fine to my msn account.

next i wanted to listen to a m4a song a friend sent me, i couldn't do that, I heard Amarok was good but how on earth do I install it and what is all that business about Distributions?

god I hate being the n00b again ¬_¬

At my wits end with m4a files on Amarok. help!

after spending hours trying to figure out how to install Amarok and then being delighted with myself once i had, i was pretty annoyed to find that Amarok and Kaffeine didn't support .m4a files.

    something about no available decoder.

What do i need to do? im so annoyed right now and no web pages i've been to seem to help.

Im using the new Acer Aspire one. on idea what that uses i.e fedora etc.
