    Volume for speakers

    hi,

i just built my first computer from the ground up and installed linux x86_64, FC10, and among other problems, i cannot get the volume of my speakers to play much above a low volume. i have the pulseaudio volume control set to 100% for the output and input levels. i adjust all my video and audio players volumes to the max also, but the volume from the speakers is still very low. the speakers worked fine with my old hp computer. is there anything i can do, adjust to fix this?...bob

Check out all the mixers. I find Pulse to focus on the main output at the moment, but if you delve into the mixer for the soundcard you can turn up PCM which should make things better. Occasionally I've seen Pulse pick the wrong level as the master level such as in my case - I have a front and a master level and it selects front.

    Sound card

You may not have the sound chip on a pci sound card, but that is a conventional term of use.

If I can google, you can google.

Pulse-code modulation - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I use openSUSE 11.0 and its configuration and control GUI allows me to set the PCM at 100% and adjust the sound volume after that. My sound signal has its output set, among the possibilities, as Front.

Google some more for Fedora10 and configure/adjust sound or some such.

    hi,

i can google too! have been! i found it somewhere, dont even know how, but i now have a master volume control, with master, pcm, front, front mic, and line in volume controls. set em all to %100, that did the trick! its not easy to find the software fixesforn linux. unlike windows, which is on about 95 % of pcs in the world, the linux gurus are hard to find! but i do thank the few that are out there, and on this forum! thank you!!!
