Possible?
Would it be possible to use a Linux Distribution on a USB to repair a windows registry problem, or to use Linux to change some files in the Restore files? If so can anyone recommend a version?
I have a laptop running windows Xp that has no cd drive, keyboard, or mouse function due to a registry error. I have a good restore point with the correct registry entries that I could change if it would be possible to boot from a USB version of Linux.
Thank you for your time.

I am not aware of any Linux app that can modify Window's registry. Have you tried BartPE?

No, I haven't tried BartPE. I'd have to use the USB drive as the CD drive is no good. I've found sites that explained it, but I wasn't sure if this was a viable option.

I think best option is to make a Ubuntu live USB, backup everything to another place (or to a big flash) then reinstall windows....clearly if you're the files are that corrupted then it could very well be time for you to start from scratch (or better yet....try out Linux for awhile and see what you think).

Possible? Of course
Whether you feel you are technically capable of it? That is up to you.

It depends on the size of your USB drive which distro you should choose to try this. If your USB drive is smaller than 2 gigs I say, go for puppy or DSL, otherwise, go for Ubuntu/Debian. On the smaller devices it's more easy to install a small system, even though Ubuntu might fit, it will give trouble with the installer, when your device is smaller than 2 gigs(tried it my self).
