Which Linux version for old Toshiba notebook

I recently got a Toshiba 4090XDVD and wish to install Linux on it...mainly for the fun of it.

    The computer specs are:
    Celeron 400 Mhz
    6 GB HD
    192 MB RAM

I would mostly use this for internet, and potentially some movie watching.

Any suggestions on which Linux "version" (sorry don't even know if that's the correct lingo) I should go with?

I did some basic searching, but there seems to be almost too many options.

    Thanks.

Puppy or DSL or Debian can be a good option.

Not that old!!! My 500cdt is considered really old!. Try Damn Small Linux, cause you can download it easily [only 50MB]. If ya like it.. Knoppix will go on that box very nicely. Having said all that I am very much warming up to puppy cause It Feels more like Mac's OSX, which I am acustomed to. Heck I'm gonna try Slax one day soon... but that's another story.

I'd say go for Puppy or DSL, but if you are a bit trained with GNU/Linux LFS might also give you a nice small system (use a more heavy one for compiling though otherwise you'll be busy for ages with compiling).

While yer at it go on and get Geexbox for watching DVD w/o booting into an OS, and I am starting to "get along with" the Grub for Geexbox, So you can have choices at boot time.
Also I agree that you may end up using a "heavier OS" after you decide the "Style" you like

Try Vector, the standard edition runs fine on my Toshiba Satelite, Amd Athlon 2, 192mb ram and a massive 4gb hard disk.

Well, I downloaded Puppy 4.1.2. However, I could not connect to my WEP router, apparently a known issue.

Because the above didn't work, I now downloaded:
    DSL 4.1.10
    Vector 5.8 Live CD
    Vector 5.9 Lite
    Puppy 4.0

Will try all of them and see which I, and the computer, like best.

I gave Wolvix Cub a try on an old Toshiba laptop. I did a full install and so far no issues.
