    Exclamation no swap partition functioning...

Having same problem maybe I could get some help? When I 'reinstalled' fedora 10 there seemed to be no swap partition functioning... Here is my fdisk result!

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
    /dev/sda1 1 637 5116671 12 Compaq diagnostics
    /dev/sda2 * 638 7011 51199155 7 HPFS/NTFS
    /dev/sda3 7012 7036 200812+ 83 Linux
    /dev/sda4 7037 19457 99771682+ 5 Extended
    /dev/sda5 7037 19457 99771651 8e Linux LVM

It seems to be visible in logical volume management under 'Logical View' in /dev/VolGroup00/LogVol01

    Says Mount Point: Unmounted

    Mount Point When Rebooted: swap

    File System: swap

    What should I do?

My guess is reboot from what you are saying.

Hi, yes definitely does not work reboot several times a day and always the same... not sure what to do! Noticeable difference in performance when running multiple apps... (ie worse with no swap partition) thanks

Here is what my fdisk -l shows for my Ubuntu install. The sda1 Ntfs partion you will see there is a IBM System recovery Partition. This is a only single boot Ubuntu computer

    desktop:~$ sudo fdisk -l
    [sudo] password for :

    Disk /dev/sda: 80.0 GB, 80032038912 bytes
    255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 9730 cylinders
    Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
    Disk identifier: 0x000e5bc7

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
    /dev/sda1 * 1 95 757812+ 7 HPFS/NTFS
Partition 1 does not end on cylinder boundary.
    /dev/sda2 96 9730 77393137+ 5 Extended
    /dev/sda5 96 9332 74196171 83 Linux
    /dev/sda6 9333 9730 3196903+ 82 Linux swap / Solaris
Notice how sda6 is labled swap / Solaris

I don't see that in your fdisk readout. like you don't have a swap partition set up at all.

I agree, it looks like some one forgot to create a swap partition. Do you have more than one hard drive?

Not a clue bro, I'm guessing he has some type of LVM viewer, which I don't use, or LVM.

    Check the output of dmesg
Maybe it will show where the error is.
My guess is that the init script that activates the
swap doesn't know that it is on a logical volume.
This isn't the normal, plain vanilla installation.

Time to download gparted and create a new swap space. Should work no problem after that

    hm

Yeah I don't think the 'reinstall' over the old Fedora went very well...

I got GPartEd the other day actually and just fired it up (what i used the first time i installed...) and not only does it not see the swap (weird) but it says my hard drive fedora partition is not mounted... which is obviously is...

Also it can't detect the file system type. So I guess the install didn't go right. Unfortunate cause I have got the system set up pretty much JUST the way I like it otherwise.
