which one of the two distros ,opensuse and ubuntu look nicer?

Thats like asking a Linux user which beer or ice cream tastes better. Whether he likes Pepsi or Coke. Get the idea? You are the one that is going to have to buck up and make that decision on your own. You can narrow down your choices by taking this test.

A simple answer could be if you prefer KDE or Gnome.
Ubuntu focuses on Gnome while OpenSuse has the best KDE 4 implementation (in my opinion).
And you can use them both ofcourse!

Both have great desktop effects with Compiz-fusion. So there is no actuall difference.
If you like Ubuntu and have enabled the desktop effects, you can stick with it for the time being and try other distros whenever you want.

In my opinion, KDE always looked better than GNOME by default. But since both are customizable....

It's purely a matter of personal preference, so in the end you will have to try both and decide for yourself which one looks better to you. Of course, you can also look around online for some screenshots of each and then make a determination from that.
