how to move files?
I know the commands but every time I try, it doesn't work for me.
The damn file just erases.
Oh yeah, it doesn't help that I usually try in KRAPBUNTU, one of the worst distros.
Newbies, do not use! SUDO sucks.
Anyway, I guess I should try in a different distro. It might work then.

It might help if you showed the command you are trying?
"I know the commands but it doesn't work" typically means you don't know the commands. So show us what you are doing and we can help you out.

mv - move (rename) files
I created a directory and just downloaded the file there. The first time, I downloaded the file into a different directory and decided I wanted the file in another one. So, I tried to move it and it didn't work. I have moved a file before but this was the 2nd time that this mysterious action happened in which the file seemed to disappear. I couldn't be bothered trying to find it. It's just really annoying when it happens.

What darkrose0510 was asking for is the command you typed in, meaning include the paramters that you used.

Nevermind. I'm leaving Ubuntu and its varieties for good!
Every damn time i need to do something, I need to use ^$$@^ sudo. Then I cannot move any files or copy anything because of the system Ubuntu uses.
They are becoming more like Windoze every day and I moved to Linux to get away from that! I shouldn't have any similar copy/move problems in Debian or something similar.
P.S. I always have trouble mounting in Ubuntu. Not the others, just K/Ubuntu. I get a message/output that 'there is no mount point' or something like that.
I need access to this file and want to save it so it's backed up but now it's 'stuck' on my Ubuntu system.

Why doesn't Dolphin include the device nodes so you know which partition is for which disk drive?!?
I wasn't able to copy the file I wanted to another partition so I had to use the GUI way using Dolphin. I was just lucky I chose the desired partition early on. But, it's so ridiculous that there is no indication of which partition it is in the list.
Dolphin is not much different than Konqueror in this respect. What good is it? So absurd......

You don't have to use sudo in Ubuntu, that is just the default behaviour. If you are not willing to provide details of the command you used then you will not receive any help.
Consider next time you post a rant that you are taking time away from people who actually want to resolve their issues.
