Getting internet hooked up on my laptop?
I have this old Dell Inspiron B130 laptop that I have Linux Ubuntu on. I plug in the Ethernet cable into the side (have cable internet) and it recognizes that it's plugged in and a box pops up saying trying to connect to wired internet and then all of a sudden it just say disconnected. What do I need to do to get it to hook to my internet? Thanks.

If there are frequent disconnections, check your cable.

Hey guys help me out, I really want to get internet hooked up on my laptop. I've checked the cable and it's fine what would cause Linux not to be able to connect to my internet using a Ethernet cable for my cable internet. Thanks.

Is your cable broken?
That could be it, otherwise check your other hardware, such as LAN cards or routers for any defects.

Well its a Laptop.. and you cant see your lan card..well you can
but you should not suppose to open your laptop..
Router cant cause physical disconnection to your ethernet.
There is an easy way.. if you think there is problem in installion or config
just boot up any Live linux and see if it connects properly.
If it doesnt,
It can be your cable,
1. Check the other end of cable, like to switch or router see if its connected properly.
2. If both are connected properly. there could be propblem in your RJ-45 pin
so Cut the cable at ends and crimp it again with same colour code on new Pin.
TIP: When you connect cables always keep them loose and flex without any tension, this will help you to overcome connectivity problems in future.
