Or if you want to go even smaller than look at Slitaz at SliTaz GNU/Linux - Home page
Previously it didn't have support for wireless but it now says it does.

xubuntu would run just fine on that machine if you had enough disk, I think like 5gb, other than that I would say debian would make a good choice, you don't need to go with DSL unless you have a small disk, you should be able to get a full system up and running including X on debian in under 1gb, including a fair amount of other applications for web browsing, e-mail, etc.

page 1 of the setup screen has the following info:
dell latitude cp 233xt bios version a13
pentium-233 mhz/mmx
level 2 cache 512 kb
system memory 128 mb
video controller neomagic 2160
video memory 2 mb
audio controller crystal 4237b
primary hard drive 4100 mb
it came with a d link fast ethernet 10/100 mbps cardbus pc card
d-link model dfe-690txd
it also came with a 3com us robotics 56k modem pc card model 3056
the laptop has a single usb port, vga port, printer port etc.
i am totaly new to linux, and want to do this!!
