Listen carefully to folks like Ozar and Roky, they might just tell some interesting things.

Just dive in and dual boot with MS but set Linux as primary OS. Play around as much as you can and be prepared for a much better experience than you've had with Windows. Start out with trying at least two major distros for both KDE and Gnome and if you want to try getting a bit fancier try Xfce and even enlightenment. I'm personally a fan of Gnome but KDE 4 is getting there (still really buggy but hopefully by 4.3 or 4.4 it'll be ready for new users).

    A few distros to consider:

    Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Xubuntu
    OpenSuse
    Fedora Core
    Debian
    Linux Mint
    Bodhi 1.3 & Bodhi 1.4 using E17
Dell Studio 17, Intel Graphics card, 4 gigs of RAM, E17

I've admin'd some linux server type boxen here and there throughout my career but about 18 months ago, I went full immersion and ditched all my windows machines at home and installed Fedora on every single one of them and havent looked back since.

"Just Do It" is my advice if you're serious about it...
