What is the best linux for me?

Hey guys i have finally decided i am going o give linux ago, my problem is i cant tell the difference between all the different versions and makes.

This is where you guys come in, i need a version (the latest and greatest of course) which doesnt require the user to type in and commands or have any experience using it, i just want a smooth running but POWERFULL OS i can rely on, and is it possible there is a version/or a way to run .exe programs made for windows?

here my laptop i will be installing it on.

    Buy ACER AS5735 | 15.6" widescreen laptop - Specification | Comet

Thanks for the helps guys, much appreciated.

    LinuxMint all the way...
    Get it here.
    Main Page - Linux Mint

Mint is Ubuntu spin-off and follows the Ubuntu release cycle almost.
    its stable and extremely dependable.

Mint have every codec and browser plug-in installed under Main Edition.
and you can run Windows programs using wine under any Linux distro.

WineHQ - Run Windows applications on Linux, BSD and Mac OS X

but not all of them will work..and some will run faster than windows.

e.g. I can play World of Warcraft, Fallout 3, Call of Duty 2 & 4, Civilization 4, Spore, Lord of the Rings BFME 1& 2 etc.. CS:Source, DoD:Source, Team fortress, STALKER at better FPS than Windows.

but to make all of them work, you will need to tweak your Wine alot

but to make all of those work, you must
    Never make any misteaks.

LinuxMint would be my recommendation too, but the only way to find out for sure id to download a few, burn a few live cd's and give them a go.

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.

According to that test, I am using exactly the right distro for me

I rest my case, and BTW, I am using my "suggested distro" too. (Gentoo)

I'd say, try some live CD's and see how they work.

According to the test I should switch to Gentoo, by the way.
