There really isn't any. If you are installing system files with your package manager it will usually check for dependencies and install for you and where it is installed will depend upon what type of software it is. Is there any particular of software you are installing or is this a general question?when you install software on Linux what the default location ?

Take a look here ... /bin /sbin or somewhere in /opt /usr are good candidates
... sometimes you end up with things dumped in the current folder - depends on how you install it
