Is there a way to install a program with the .exe extension? ANYWAY?!
Hi there. I am probably going to be all over these forums. I am so new with Linux it's not even funny. It started when I tried to dual boot Fedora with my Vista system and deleted my Windows completly. Anyhoo, is there ANY any way to open a .exe file on Linux? Can it be changed to a format suported by Linux? The programs are the driver's and software for my Canon EOS DSLR camera so I need them very badly! Any and all help would be appriecited. Just to warn you, I'm not good with the Linux lingo so take it slow. Thanks!

You need to check out WINE if you want to run exe files under Linux:
WineHQ - Run Windows applications on Linux, BSD and Mac OS X
Otherwise, it's better to run native Linux applications. Check here for some Linux apps that might do what you need:

Does your camera not work under Fedora? Most cameras are just plug'n'play. Have you looked into F-Spot or gPhoto (for GNOME) or digiKam (for KDE) as far as photo management programs?

I agree with ozar. You should look into finding a Linux native equivalent to your programs. If you can't, then you may have some luck with WINE.

You might try going to your camera manufacturer's website and look under downloads. They might have one for Linus applications. I noticed that some of my other Windows programs also had programs for Linus.

You can also try out the ReactOS project (Windows NT Compatible OS, in Alpha stage), you might have better luck on the driver end of things there.
It is a separate OS which will require its own partition, which should probably be set up beforehand with gPartEd or the like. As with any alpha OS install, make backups before if trying this route.

If it's a driver thing, I wish you good luck with wine, because you'll need it. It's an environment to run Windows applications, but it was never designed to do drivers.
