Menu Interface won't load
Hello
I just received my acer inspire one notebook last week and, having had problems with Windows, I feel totally out of my depth with this Linux. As far as I know I have Linux Linpus Lite installed on the computer. Everything was going fine until a couple of days ago when programs such as firefox began to freeze for no reason. Leaving them to sort themselves out did nothing, as did pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete so I was forced to turn the computer off at the start button. I know this is bad for the computer but I was in a class and had to write my notes quickly. Now suddenly the start menu doesn't appear. The computer turns on, there is the "acer:empowering people" screen and then the blue aspire one screen which follows. However, the split screen interface "fun/work etc." part is no longer appearing, leaving me with a black screen and an arrow, I have waited for ages but nothing appears. Help me please!
Thank you
Hannah

Hi Hannah,
I honestly have recommended this to a few people gettings those acer inspire laptops....leave their OS behind and switch to Ubuntu (or Fedora Core, OpenSuse, etc...). I am personally a huge fan of Ubuntu for the new linux user. If you are interested to get it you can download and install from here:
Ubuntu Home Page | Ubuntu
luckily since you just got that system I'd think there isn't too much to backup, back it all up to another drive or a cd/dvd, etc....remove the OS they have installed and play around with a couple other distros to see if another one works out better for you.
Welcome to the forums
Don't get too upset at the beginning, I promise for almost all people it comes together fairly quickly and Windows is forgotten (or...at least made a secondary to nix).
