advent 9112 / Netbook style distro that will work?

Hi there, first post have been using ubuntu for a couple of weeks now really like it and have installed the netbook remix as i mostly use it just to surf, blog and management for my building project and a few open office documents.

i am really pleased with it except i cannot, no matter how hard i try get it to work with skype properly(microphone sounds terrible external and internal) or headphones( not turning off speakers when connected) and none of the common fixes work, I am generally quite good with managing to sort out computer related issues like this but i dont yet have an understanding of how to drive linux systems.

so i am trying to ask if anyone can advise me on what distro to try to enable me to work efficently and hopefully work with my hardware.

    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to linux forums!!.

Ubuntu has a problem with Skype and in microphones in particular. This is one of the bugs. There are a few posts you might want to read -

See how it goes. Ubuntu normally works well with hardware and you should'nt be having a lot of trouble.

If you are seriously thinking about changing your distro, you might want to try Linux mint, which is pretty much like Ubuntu and has a good interface.

If you are comfortable with linux distros and happy to work your way through, you could try out Fedora, Knoppix etc.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks, ill give them a go this evening, also notices that when i plug headphones in i can hear what the built in mic is hearing and the mic on the headphones is very distorted, i assume because it it trying to record 2 mics.

ubuntu is awesome so i think i will stay with for now even if i cant fix this.

But i will have to find some time to learn about how terminal works rather than just copy paste everything.

    thanks.
