    Hi and Welcome !

Install VLC Player through Package Manager. It supports most of media formats.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

You can also install ubuntu-restricted-extras if you are using Ubuntu but vlc is the best video player that I've used to date

    if you want ubuntu-restricted-extras

    sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

that will install most of the codecs that you'll use, including flash
    Bodhi 1.3 & Bodhi 1.4 using E17
Dell Studio 17, Intel Graphics card, 4 gigs of RAM, E17

The eee pc uses Xandros, not Ubuntu, by default... It's based on Debian, so enabling the debian media repositories could be useful to get some non-free multimedia packages. Xandros Wiki / Supported And Unsupported Source Repositories for Xandros
