    OpenLDAP + Samba question.

Ok, I'm planning on trying to setup a domain using openldap and samba. Here's my question. I know it's possible to have windows machines join the domain and therefore have users log in on them by authenticating to openldap. However, what about user group permissions....so that certain users can/can not install or modify the windows system? I need it for the most part to function like active directory so that I can make one user name one password work for all systems on the network.

I did this - I used Fedora Directory Server rather tha OpenLDAP (there isn't much difference, but you do have a nice java-based UI with FDS).

The services you provide depend on the schemas you apply to your LDAP database. There is plenty of documentation about this on the Samba website - I found it quite helpful.
