    Its really easy to re-install GRUB. You can use Installation CD, LiveCD of any distro or SuperGRUB CD.
    It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

    what about bootable floppy created while installing the IS

    When I installed RED HAT it asked me to make a bootable floppy to recover in case of failure. I think if you made a floppy like they asked you , insert and recover you GRUB.

    I think you have tried to install very old version of RedHat. New distros do not give any option for Bootable Floppy creation. Its really easy to re-install Boot Loader using LiveCD or other tools these days.
    It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
