Looking For a Distribution
I have a P2 66MHZ with 128M of ram, 40G HD + Hyperlink wireless LAN card and I'm looking for the optimal distribution for this system. It currently has Win 98SE which I intend to replace and am looking the closest thing to Win 98 in the Linux world. Any ideas?

Welcome to LinuxForums!
You might want to look at either Damn Small or Puppy. Both would run on your hardware, and there are different Window Managers that you can use that can resemble Win98. In fact, IceWM has a default theme that is based on a Win98 look.Jay

I second what jay posted If you are looking to keep Windows 98 and dual boot Puppy, I wrote a how to on a install I did. You don't have to use the version of Puppy I used. Pick out the one you like best that'll run on your system requirements.

I'm srue it is 66mhz because dxdiag shows it as ~66 and dsl hows it as 66.7.
So far dsl works well on it and the latest version of Puppy will load and run but is too slow to be usable. I like Puppy better than DSL and will use Puppy on some other machines I have but will continue to experiment with other flavors of Linux too.

The Pentium II series started out about 200-233MHz. I'd say that's either the bus/RAM speed or it's not a Pentium II

It is one of the older computers I use in my work I have been told it was a 166 by my employer and when running Win 98 it seems to run too well to be a 66mhz cpu. DxDiag shows it as a ~66. It is a Dell Lattitude CPi D266XT but so far I have not found a site or web page that tells me exactly what the system specs are. I was thinking a 66mhz CPU would be a 486 class machine.

Thanks Jay - that is helpful!
Can anyone tell me how to turn off the on screen clock and calander in Puppy?
I think it might run faster if it didn't have to displat it.
