After reading that, post back once you can word the correct question that you want to ask.

GNU/Linux is not a flavor of Unix. It acts very similar to Unix, and as such it is "unix-like".
BSD on the other hand, is a form of Unix, which is now floss with FreeBSD, OpenBSD, and NetBSD.

Maybe this will help:
FreeBSD vs Linux vs Windows 2000
I know it's old... but the premise still stands, even though it's a little biased towards BSD

"A little biased" is an euphemism in this case

For example, to qualify the hardware support in BSD's better than in Linux is plainly a lie. I am not saying that Linux is better than any given BSD flavor (in fact even those are quite different between them). There are also some asseveration that are clearly opinions, and don't necessarily match the reality.

Very true! But as I've never actually used any flavours of BSD, I can't really give a definitive statement that could point out any of the strengths or weaknesses of it.
But if I did, I would be biased towards Linux (Duh!)
The link I posted was only meant to be a pointer. Honestly, it was the result of "Linux vs. BSD vs. Windows"
...still not sure why I included Windows, though...Jay

FreeBSD, OpenBSD, NetBSD are all versions of the BSD Unix system. BSD is short for Berkeley Software Distribution. UC Berkeley was a licensee of AT&T's Unix since waayyy back. It preceeds System V Unix, and while it shares a fair bit of code, they are very much different beasts these days. The original SunOS was a Berkeley derivative, but they moved to a System V branch when they changed the name to Solaris. Linux is not based on either BSD or System V. It is its own beast, but it shares more code with BSD (GNU tools, etc) than System V I think.
