You do need to install the talk-server, as only the talk-client is installed by default. I still couldn't get it to work with my current PCs, Fedora 10 and Mythbuntu 8.04. It may be because of incompatible versions of talk. If you are using the same distro on all PCs, you shouldn't run into that problem.

Here's what I installed on my Fedora 10 PC, RHEL should be similar:

talk-0.17-30.2.4.i386 : Talk client for one-on-one Internet chatting.
talk-server-0.17-30.2.4.i386 : The talk server for one-on-one Internet chatting.

And for dependency, it installed this:
    xinetd-2.3.14-21.fc10.i386 : A secure replacement for inetd

I did have this working a while back, when I was still using Fedora 8.
