    Welcome to the forums!

It's probably possible, but can you describe a little better exactly what it is that you are wanting to do?

Generally speaking, it's best to install and use packages that were compiled for the specific distribution that you intend to use. If you can tell us what distribution it is that you want to run, and what packages you are looking for, someone might be able to direct you to a good source for packages that were compiled for that particular distro. Otherwise, you could try compiling the packages you need from source and installing that way, although it would be a slower and more tedious process.

16000+ packages are avialable in Ubuntu sources and I am sure that most of applications that you require are available in default sources of Ubuntu.

    Search packages here.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
