    VPC Additions-Ubuntu 9.04 ++

    Hi all, I have just started using Linux Distros', so very much a newbie, Anyway I have been trying for 6 days to install Microsoft Virtual PC Additions on to my Ubuntu 9.04 Beta, which is running in VPC VM/VHD. I have been searching all over the internet but can,t find an answer, so I'm hoping you guys can (now that I've found you)

    I also have Ubuntu 8.10 running in a VirtualBox VM/VHD, and my big problem here is accessing my network - I have no problem getting on the Internet, but try as I do, I just can't work it out. Again any help would be much appreciated. I should also add I'm about to upgrade this Ubuntu version to the all new 9.04, does anyone think this will solve my problem??

    Kind regards, Algypalgy

    You need to read your VBox documentation more carefully. They explain how to configure a VM to access your local network. I access my Linux systems from a Windows XP VM all the time without any problems. I am running CentOS 5.3, but this is not a Linux issues so much as a Windows and VM one.

    Also, to install the VBox Guest Additions to your Windows PC, you need to tell VBox to mount the additions .iso file as a CD-ROM, then you can install it without problems. You can do that either before you start the VM in the VBox configuration/startup tool, or when the VM is running by going to the Devices menu at the top of your VM window and select the "Mount CD/DVD ROM" entry, or even more easily, select the "Install Guest Additions" at the bottom of the Devices menu. That will mount the .iso for you.

    Many thanks Rubberman. I don't have a problem with VBox Additions, they installed very easily. However I'm interested on reading the documentation, of which, I have already read pages 8 to 148, but may have missed the crucial bits!! So, please, if you can point me in the right direction I would very much appreciate it.

    Kind regards, Algypalgy.

    Ok. I thought that the VBox Guest Additions were what you meant by "Microsoft Virtual PC Additions", but simply misstated. I take it that is not the case. What do "Microsoft Virtual PC Additions" do, and what VMM are they intended for?
