    Acer Aspire One (=

hello guys, Im new here and to linux, so I want to ask you for an advise.
I bought myself a notebook Acer Aspire One (1 gb ddr2, with bigger HDD). It has Windows XP home on it and I'm not pleased with its performance. I bought this Acer for music production, outside of home (college, on the go etc). It takes very long time to load my music files and FL Studio actually overloads windows and memory so the sound Begins to crack. Which Linus distributive and version do I need?

Main purpose of the Laptop is: Music composing in FL studio and related soft (Digital performer, cake...... etc).

Not for gaming, movie watching, online browsing and related things.

PS: I will upgrade memory to 1.5 GB soon.

I don't know if Ubuntu Studio will fit your needs or even work on a Acer Aspire One. My wife has a Acer Aspire One with XP and 120 gig Hardrive with one gig ram. To be on the safe side, I set hers up with Easy Peasy Ubuntu, since it works out the box on a Aspire One. I used this how to for install, made up about 50 gigs for Easy Peasy. Linky

Forgot to mention you can set up Easy Peasy to work just like Ubuntu Studio. Just install Ubuntu Studio packages into Easy Peasy using Synaptic Package Manager. I;ve never done it, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

Didn;t install it so I can't say much about it. After I set up her netbook, (browser, email, etc..........) She told me to let her do the rest because she has never ran linux until I installed Easy Peasy. I told her I could do a Triple boot but she said no. Let me learn what you installed first. All I can say is make a bootable live USB using Unetbootin and see for yourself.

From what I have read on the forums, some people don't like Ubuntu Netbook Remix, and some do. I got no experience with it though. I run a few different distros on Laptops and Desktops but none on a netbook.

Ubuntu Netbook Remix is supposed to be an "official version" of Easy Peasy.
BUT, Ubuntu 9.04 has a serious regression with the Intel Video driver. For this reason I suggest Easy Peasy, which is based on Ubuntu 8.10, but with more updated repositories. Once the issue with the Intel driver is fixed, I'll replace Easy Peasy with Ubuntu NBR.
