    Hello and Welcome!

Are you logged in as root when you try to install? Software installation in Linux requires admin privileges.
Also, for the most part you won't need AV software in Linux unless you plan on sharing files with Windows machines on your network.

Thanks so far i like linux and am looking forward to the challenges of the learning curve.
I have tried as root and i would like to have avg on the system because my wife is still running the windows os. And i would like to be able to share files with her. But I want to protect my computer before diving in the networking portion of linux.

Where are you trying to download it from? Have you tried using Fedora Package Manager, I think it's yum but don't use Fedora. Using the package manager that comes with your particular system through its repositories works best because if the program has an dependencies this is checked by the system during install.

are you sure rpm is downloaded correctly without any corruption?

If the packages comes with Fedora , I would suggest use yum .

    yum install package
Because using RPM most of the time gets into infinite rpm dependency hell
