Ubuntu/Windows dual install
I just ordered a neww laptop that comes with Windows Vista. I plan to uninstall Vista and install a dual boot of Windows XP and Ubuntu.
I'm a total Linux newbie and I don't know command line interface well at all.
Can someone give me a link or a step by step guide to installing both Windows XP and Ubuntu.
I love Ubuntu for my normal everyday computing but I want XP for gaming.

Welcome to the forums!
The easiest route is to install Windows XP first, leaving some unallocated space on the hard drive for Linux. The Ubuntu installer will offer you the opportunity to setup a dual boot system.
If you aren't comfortable using the command line for your partitioning chores, you can use the Parted Magic LiveCD to get the job done through a GUI interface.oz

Thanks,
I'm going to google around a little to try to get a feel for Parted Magic LiveCD. I'll make sure to install XP first. I've never partitioned a drive before. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

I suggest you download and burn the CD, boot from it and give it a try. Backup essential data before partition resize (just incase power loss or similar occurs). Resize or create partition for Windows and leave space for Linux after the Windows partition. Install Windows then install Ubuntu - but make sure you select manual or custom partition ... the Ubuntu installer by default tries to use the whole hard drive and will wipe Windows
(or at least it did last time I used it).
