    Hey there
    I have installed Ubuntu on an external HDD. But was wondering whether it is possible to take the HDD and connect to some other computer and work normally?

    If its Live Install, It will.
    If its Persistant Install, It will work too, but dont install nvidia/ATI or any Wireless driver because another computer may have different hardware.

    There is no need to disable Hardware Probe. You won't face much problems except Graphics and Wireless stuff. Its easy to fix Graphics problem. You have to tweak a little or more to configure Wireless card.
    It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

    Well, you can build another kernel from your generic source codes from distro, where nvidia driver modules aren't installed, and put seperate entries in Grub..and boot appropriate one.

    But its quite tricky..

    why don't you use a live cd? It has more portability I think.

    Its not persistent, You always have to carry a pen drive or something else device to store your data.

    Also, You have to install the packages you need again.

    The best way is to create Remastered Live USB Pendrive with persistent storage.

    Dude I still don't knw how to compile the Kernel. So it's off my mind right now, but will soon learn it .
