acer one aspire linpus question
Hi everyone,
Got the litle acer one aspire laptop with Linpus, got to the advanced section with
xfce-setting-show
got to the Add/Remove Software section and by mistake removed the xfce interface. Wanted to see if gnome would get setup.
now i boot up to a black screen with the scross hair mouse pointer, I cant do anything. Is there a way to get the interface back ?
Thanks

Don't know how to recover your desktop. Here is one suggestion.
Acer Aspire One Linux recovery DVD available for download
Another would be to install
Easy Peasy - Ubuntu for Netbooks
Or
Eeebuntu Official Site - Main
I have never ran Linpus or rpm based distro so I am not familiar with the command for root in terminal to restore XFCE on such a distro. Maybe somebody running Fedora or such will jump in and help you out. My above suggestions are just alternative options. Nothing more. Good Luck.Linux Registered User # 475019

Thanks for your reply. I was hoping to get a way into text based mode in order to reinstall the xfce gui.
If theres no way then ill reinstall via usb

There is probably a way. I just am not familiar enough with the command for your distro is all. Give it a day to see if anybody more knowledgeable than me can give you the command.

reinstalling xfce
Hi,
Maybe this is too late to help you, but in that case maybe this is usefull for others having te same problem. If you have access to a command line you could probably reinstall xfce by issuing this command:
sudo yum install xfce
If you end up in a graphical screen with no menus and cannot leave it by the usual ctrl-alt-F1 command (which seems diisabled by default on these Acer Aspire One machines) then a solution would be to temporarily boot using a live distribution (from usb or cdrom) and modify a few settings files by hand (see also this post on www dot linuxquestions dot org/questions/linux-laptop-and-netbook-25/no-console-in-linpus-lite-691693/
(sorry for this strange notation, but the forum does not allow me to insert valid url's because I just joined ...)
edit /etc/inittab and allow one or more mingetty commands that are specified at the end of this file
Also you need to edit the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf and set the DontVTSwitch to "no". Default is "yes" on this machine, which disables the possibility to switch to text mode, even if the getty commands are activated in /etc/inittab ! (usefull to make it fool-proof, but a problem if you have to fix things manually in text mode).
