    Hi -
    Welcome !
    mount /dev/sdb1 /media
    Above should work..if that didn't work, open a terminal and run this command
    tail -f /var/log/message
    now plug your USB ..device name will appear on the terminal .
    use that device name instead of above said /dev/sdb1

    Most of distros automount USBs. Which Linux distro and version are you using?
    It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
