I'm running CentOS as well, and have not had this problem with Windows shares. It might be that you don't have read permission on that file, so even though it shows up in the directory listing it cannot be opened. I don't know if that will trigger the "file does not exist" error, but it could.

no yar,
that is Engineer's log book, we need to login with our own ID and password, with our id we have permission to read others and read/write ours. But the problem is , if i try copying that file to my desktop and say open, it opens, but directly by clicking , am getting an error.
one more thing it is asking for user id and password, but irrespective of what ever i give it accepts, even without user id and passwrod also it enters the page.
In a pc which has redhat os , doesn't have any problem , only my machine is having problem.

What version of Red Hat does the PC that works have? CentOS is (mostly) the same as Red Hat Enterprise Linux. You say yours is CentOS 4 - have you tried upgrading your Samba client software (uses cifs driver to mount Windows/Samba shares)?
