Would a new video card fix my slow java?
Hello. I'm running Ubuntu in a dual-boot setup with windows xp. I have a 2 GHz processor and 1.3 GB of RAM. For video, I have an on-board Intel graphics controller: 82845G/GL. The problem I'm experiencing is mediocre performance on java applications (namely, pogo games).
Could I see a performance improvement if I bought a NVidia Graphics Card? I've heard that they work well with Linux. I've been told that the main reason for my sluggishness is probably a misconfigured graphics controller, which is a common problem with Intel graphics controllers.

Java Blues
Thanks. I've heard that from a couple of different people now. Java has its issues. I might try buying a video card on ebay and see if that improves things.

You can get a nice nVidia card for well under $100 USD if you don't want to bother with the high-end power-hungry models. Don't bother with eBay. Go to Buy.com and get something like a PNY card from a reputable dealer with a rational returns policy.
