what distro is good for old 128mb of ram pc?
I have this really old pc that i'm messing with.
it only has 128mb of ram.
i just want to be able to go on the internet with it, and be able to check my e-mail (yahoo and gmail) and do simple task, such as look at pictures, and use forms.
i tried ubuntu, and simplyMEPIS, but when I put in the boot disk i get a message that says something like:
"bios 1999, does not meet 2000 cut off."
i did get DSL to run on it, it seems to run ok, but some webpages will make it crash.
i heard that MEPIS_lite was good for old computers, but i couldn't find it for free.
I'm just trying different things on this computer to see what works.
I'm just looking for suggestions for FREE distro's that can get me online on an old P.O.S. computer

You can check this poll for favorite distro for lower spec computer hardware:

Unfortunately, you'll probably end up needing to actually try each distro for yourself to see if it is something that suits your own tastes, and works well with your hardware.oz

puppy is real good for that machine spec, I just refurbished an old dell 8100, with 128 megs of ram, runs youtube videos no problem, also you can just run it from the live cd if you prefer.

AntiX 8 and Zenwalk or Linux Mint Fluxbox 6 RC1 should run Ok also.

I am a Puppy-fan, and that would work perfectly that I am sure.
But if you really want Mepis (here a downloadLink)
I also have a 128 Ram Computer but there runs Mandriva, openmamba, Debian and Gobo on it.
All those without problems
Have a try via LiveCD before. Once installed they are even faster.
