Hello Linux world! SME 7.2 upgrade to 7.4

    Hello Linux world

I'm totally a newbie when comes to linux and servers can sort of get around O.k in Windows but linux at this time is a bit alien to me at this time. So the first thing I did was sign up here for help, because I know I'm going to need it at some stage...

IS there anything I need to know about the update from "SME 7.2 to 7.4", I'm told I need to do 7.2 first then 7.4 for a user naming support issue, several of our staff only have a six characters in their password.

The sme is just going to be used for a local smallish group < 20 units as print server also hold the local class / tutors docs and backups.

This sme will not have the direct connection to the inet it will go through another sme server, Monowall is also operating on the same segment if this is going to cause issues?...havent quite got my teeth into that properly either.., both of these were previously setup by a former linux guru who left this business sometime ago.

Now I am tasked with supporting these systems any advice and "gotch ya's" things to be mindful of, would be very much appreciated.

This install of 7.2 is happening as soon as I post this.

Thanks in advance for any helpful word of wisdom from the Linux guru's out there.

SME supports the YUM package manager, as do most Red Hat derivatives. Here is the SME wiki main page: SME Server
And here is the SME upgrade wiki: Updating from SME 7.1.x or earlier - SME Server
Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.
Just remember, Semper Gumbi - always be flexible!
