    RedHat test fails, what should I do

    hi everybody

    Actually I downloaded RedHat Enterprise linux server 5.3 from internet and when I did check the test for the CDs I found 3 CDs fail and 2 CDs are Passed

    ===========================
    I got this message:

    The media check of hte image:
    RedHat enterprise linux server 5.3 disc 1
    is complete, and the result is: FAIL.
    The image which was tested has errors. This could be due to a corrupt
    download or a bad disc. If applicable, please clean the disc and try
    again. If this test contniues to fail you should not continue the install.
    ===========================

    Actually I installed the linux one time before and I formatted but I'm afraid I might face a lot of problems in the future of some application won't work. So any suggestion I'll be glad.

    Thanks in advance

    Welcome to the forums!

    According to the error message you received, you need to try downloading the ISO files again if they are corrupted, or burn the files to disk again if the media itself was bad.

    You can check this HowTo for making sure you properly download the ISO files and then burn them to disk as images:

    Did you download the files directly from the Red Hat servers?

    Before you burn the discs, make sure you have verified the checksums (md5 or sha1) of the iso images, otherwise you will have a failure no matter how many times you try to burn them. Garbage in, garbage out.

    ...and then burn at a slow speed, well below your CD writer's maximum.

    I always found burning the DVD was better than the CD's. But that's just me. YMMV.

    And where exactly did you download the Enterprise version from? And isn't 5.3 a beta?

    5.3 is current release. You can download and install RHEL distributions for "evaluation" - they'll send you a 30 day support ID, but you can use the system forever without one. In any case, you can access their iso's without much difficulty and download whatever you need.
