    hard-drive/install problem

My sister has a four year old computer and the sata hard drive was making a lot of noise so i suggested removing it and installing a new sata hard drive. Well removing the hard drive and installing the new one was no problem. I then suggested that she install a Linux distro, PCLinuxOS. Once again the distro seemed to install really easy. But when i rebooted the computer and tried to run PCLinuxOS from the hard drive the only thing that appeared on the screen was a mass of different colors. Could anyone tell me what on earth has gone wrong please.

I have managed to run a Live-CD, PCLinuxOS but only after i have altered the boot sequence so that the CD/DVD drive is the first choice to load with the HardDrive the second option. Having run PCLinuxOS from a Live-CD i then tried to install it to the hard drive but for some reason the install failed?
