i dont think so. but it would be much more easy'er to use "grip"?

ive tried to compile grep but
the grep compiler says that i done have the gnomeconf.sh file

I haven't ripped a CD, but I do know that you can't do it with mpg123. mpg123 only decodes MP3, it doesn't encode.

As Dolda said mpg123 is a decoader.
"Sound juicer" and "grip" are two gui ripping programs. They are obtainable as RPM's or Deb's etc. The package your require will depend on your distribution.
