    Online Security Check

    Hello!

I'm trying to do an online security check on my Linux system.

I would like to do a Firewall/Antivirus test.

What free online sites do you know?

For instance, I use ShieldsUp to test some firewall's components.
    Does someone recommend anything else?

I still can't find a site that tests for the presence of virus/malware installed.
    Are there any?

    Thank you

you don't need an anti-virus, I don't think any of the moderators in the forums use one (from me seeing previous posts by them). I could give you a long explanation or you can just read this:

Note to new Linux users: No antivirus needed

As for a firewall I'd recomment checking out one of the easy ones like Lokkit
    Bodhi 1.3 & Bodhi 1.4 using E17
Dell Studio 17, Intel Graphics card, 4 gigs of RAM, E17

I like ShieldsUp, but now it always tells me I failed part because I don't disable ICMP/ping. iptables seemed very easy to learn when I started reading about it, but after a while of reading I was a little confused by part of the tutorial and I already had a million settings on here from the installation/firewall. I would think that if you learned iptables fully, it would be the best thing - but it would take a while I would think. Networking is complex to me. I wonder if Firestarter is a good firewall - other than being easy to use? I've used Guarddog before, also, and liked it.

I'm using openSuse with AppArmour (I think openSuse includes firewall protection).

I get a "Failed" in Ping tests to (using ShieldsUp tests).
But if I ping my IP address there is a 100% packet loss (it seems as if the IP does not respond to ping requests)... so I don't get it

Hum... Trend House Call doesn't seem to work.
It stops loading the site as soon as I accept the user conditions.

Could that be pinging your router rather than your PC?

Are you connecting to the net via a router?
I am connected to the net via a router and the default settings for the router firewall are allow all outgoing connections but block all incomming connections ... have you got a similar setup?

    Yes, I use a Thomson ST516v6 ADSL2+ Gateway.

    Thomson link:
DSL Modems & Gateways - - Thomson ST516v6 (Internet zone)

Thomson Hardware Firewall is set at "STANDARD LEVEL" (Allow all outgoing connections and block all incoming traffic. Game and Application sharing is allowed by the firewall).

Software Firewall (in openSuse) is activated and so is AppArmor.

    It's weird...
