Need help installing Linux DVR software!
Hi there fellow linux users!
I have a problem that maybe the Gods on this website can help me with.
I have a shuttle pc that was purchased in 2004 and setup to be used as a DVR recording system. Well after 5 years of use the hard drive has hit the dirt! I have replaced the hard drive and installed Ubuntu(latest version.)
The problem I am having is installing the DVR software that came with it. The cd says Easyprotect version 2.3-16, Oct. 31, 2005
I honestly don't know which version of Linux was installed on this pc when purchased but it had to be a version from 2004 or 2005? The software will not install on Ubuntu! I'm lost!
What would you guys recommend? What version of Linux was used in 2004-05?
I cant seem to find it anywhere! I would really appreciate any and all help I could get
along with links if possible please? A user friendly version would be nice but I am willing to install any version that will work with this DVR software....
Thanks, Jay

man this is shocking
You used an operating system for 4-5 and don't know the name of the OS. Btw the DVR software you mentioned is very rare ( as google searches hardly showed helpful pages). I would recommend you find out which OS you used before . What is the extension of the installation file.
Only if I could understand the man pages

Hi there,
I did not know the name of the OS because it was purchased as a DVR unit with cameras(retail store use) and preinstalled. Everytime you rebooted the machine it would just go directly to the software which shows the cameras. I guess it is weird but honestly, we hardly even needed to reboot it.
I guess the best thing is to figure out what linux version OS was used in late 2004 and 2005? What was the most common and stable?
Thanks for all the help offered!

I found one vague reference to shuttle pcs shipping with mandrake linux back then (the precursor to Mandriva) and that's about it.
I doubt you will have much success with that old DVR software. I would look into something like Mythbuntu to install on the new HD.

So Mandrake linux is one option, is there a certain version of that OS that I should look out for that was used in 04?
mandriva.com/en/download/free]Download
Is that the correct one?
And Mythbuntu seems like something I should try and install first! After some research it would be a logical step, but do you have any experience with this software? The shuttle has the video card installed will it support mulitple(16) cameras?
And the shuttle is not connected to the internet, is there a place where I can download Mythbuntu on a cd and put the cd into the shuttle and just do a regular install from it?

On this page which one do I need? Thanks for all the help guys, your help is much appreciated!

You can download the Mythbuntu iso from this location.
This link has info on burning the iso to a cd or dvd.
I have no experience with DVR stuff, so beyond that I have no idea. I would not recommend trying an outdated unsupported distro. It would probably make your life harder than is necessary. System requirements to run a modern distro are not too greatly changed from running an older one like mandrake.
