How to install gtkpod on my asus eee pc?

    Hi!

I'm a complete ignorant for linux, and practically the only thing I know is how to open my console. I've read several tutorials on installing software on linux, but it all just looks like gobbledygook to me. I've never used the console, nor installed any software before.

I want to install gtkpod (a software which allows using ipods without itunes), and have downloaded the gtkpod-0.99.14.tar.gz file (from: sourceforge.net/projects/gtkpod/files/ ) on my USB. I've extracted the file to my documents on my laptop, but I have no idea how to install the software now.

I've read the "install" information file extracted from the package, but it was no help. I've attached the instructions in this post.

Can someone please lead my step-by-step on how to install this software?

    Thank you!

In most cases installing software in Linux involves selecting desired software in your package manager and clicking on "install". Everything will be downloaded from your distro repository and installed for you.

Useful Links for a New EEEPC USER (which are probably already bookmarked in your browser) because I own one running Xandros.
