Taskbar and Blue screen

Hi all,

Seriously newbie question...

I just bought an Asus Eee, used it the night I got it and it was all fine. I have then turned it on today and all I have is the task bar down the bottom and a blue background. Nothing happens when I click on the 'Show desktop' button, the updates icon opens, but the close application and Eee PC tips icons do nothing.

I am sure it is something really simple, and that when someone gives me an answer I am going to feel really stupid but not being able to work it out is really starting to get to me.

are you able to open any other application??
Is the screen responsive or has hanged!!
