    Skype sound

I have quite a few relatives and friends around the world and really like using Skype via my computer to keep in touch with them. And although my webcam a Logitech model work alright the sound quality is terrible. I use head phones.

Unfortunately for them my friends and relatives are all running Windows OS's and i am the only one using Xubutu 8.10 and Ubuntu 9.04 on separate computers.

My friends and relatives can hear me perfectly yet i cannot understand a word their are saying. Is there something i could do to rectify this problem?

Have you tried disabling pulseaudio and using alsa instead.

The sound controls for Skype are in Skype and not in the computer audio controls. Open Skype>Sbutton (bottom left)>Options> Sound devices. Play about with Sound Out.Try different settings. I used a headset and it did not work until I changed it to the option with "hw" in it. Make a Test Sound. Make a Test call

    Think i've done it........finally!
In Ubuntu i went to System => Preferences => Sound and then changed from alsa to OSS. Also in Skype itself i changed all sound devices to: HDA ATI SB (hw:SB,0).
Now at least i can make a successfull test sound and make a test call. Just waiting now for a chance to try it out lol.
