Grub Error 17: Cannot mount selected partition
You need to give us more information. Did you initially have xp and Linux dual booting? What distribution of Linux? When you had your distro of Linux, I assume you used the Grub bootloader? Do you only have xp now? Do you have a Linux Live CD you can use to run commands to give us more information?
Without your partition information it will be hard to give accurate suggestions. You should be able to use your xp CD in Recovery option to overwrite master boot record to boot windows. I assume you have no other Linux distro installed and only wish to boot xp?
