    [SOLVED] Dual monitor no compiz?

    Hi All,

I just had to buy a new laptop because mine went down completely last week. I decided not to get a high end card like I chose to on my previous computer, I don't game, I don't do things that require it. With my old system I had a nvidia card and with nvidia settings it was really easy to set up a dual monitor setup and compiz always ran well.

Now I have a system with an intel on board video card (it's not horrible actually), I can dual monitor easily with the display settings in Ubuntu BUT compiz fails when I do. Here is the message I get when I try to run compiz in terminal

    Checking for Xgl: not present.
xset q doesn't reveal the location of the log file. Using fallback /var/log/Xorg.0.log
    Detected PCI ID for VGA:
    Checking for texture_from_pixmap: not present.
    Trying again with indirect rendering:
    Checking for texture_from_pixmap: present.
Checking for non power of two support: present.
    Checking for Composite extension: present.
Checking screen 1Comparing resolution (2880x900) to maximum 3D texture size (204: Failed.
    aborting and using fallback: /usr/bin/metacity
Is there a way to fix this? Metacity works but....my theme looks so good that I don't like letting it go haha, thanks all!

That looks like you may have a setting in Compiz that limits your width to 2048. Check the config... that's what it looks like to me. Of course, I use a Nvidia card, so this is only a guess...

Yeah I actually found a known bug over in launchpad....it's been around for a long time and it hasn't been fixed (although at one point it was at "critical" for importance). I guess there was a somewhat fix but for most people it's still an issue....I hope they can solve the issue soon, I dual monitor for work and having metacity take over screws up a lot of things (all of my stuff from other sides of my cube come to the front, devilspie stops working, etc...)
