    modconf is a little confusinfg to say the least looks like the usb drivers are working
    Perhaps you might as well try:
    Code:
    $ modprobe -r snd_usb_audio
    followed by
    $ modprobe snd_usb_audio
    and then look at the output of
    $ dmesg
    are the last few lines saying it's detected the sound thing in the camera? It's at least worth a try. If it doesn't work remove the module with
    Code:
    $ modprobe -r snd_usb_audio
    to avoid slowing the system. Incidentally unmute and turn on everything in
    Code:
    $ alsamixer
    .

    Sorry about delay, been off internet.

    "[ 455.277785] usbcore: registered new interface driver snd-usb-audio" So looks like it's already using snd-usb-audio, which seems a good sign. Perhaps it's working but is muted:
    Code:
    $ alsamixer
    Then try to unmute everything 'm' toggles muting, and generally try to switch everything on.

    Is it using skype or something? Wouldn't know anything about that.
    Code:
    peter@peter-laptop:~$ modprobe -r snd_usb_audio
    FATAL: Error removing snd_usb_audio (/lib/modules/2.6.28-15-generic/kernel/sound/usb/snd-usb-audio.ko): Operation not permitted
    peter@peter-laptop:~$
    You should have done this as root. If it's ubuntu
    Code:
    peter@peter-laptop:~$ sudo modprobe -r snd_usb_audio
    FATAL: Error removing snd_usb_audio (/lib/modules/2.6.28-15-generic/kernel/sound/usb/snd-usb-audio.ko): Operation not permitted

    even more frustrated ubuntu user

    Sory but i was buisy
    I gave up on my webcam too complicated wouldn't work dumped Ubuntu went to linux mint same problem guess its the same kernal so it makes sence
    I have a bigger problem cant get my printer working its a brother MFC-290c
    its on my older 32 bit sys running mint. I tried cups not listed there went to Brothers website solutions.brother.com/linux/en_us/instruction_prn3 the driver is there in deb and rpm. Ive installed and put the deb on my desktop no luck.
    it installs fine dpkg -l | grep Brother it says its there
    I think this is the problem

    "Step 5. Confirm/Configure a file according to your connection
    5-1. Check the configuration filename for your distribution.

    # Example: openSUSE, Ubuntu, Debian : /etc/printcap
    # Redhat, fedora, Mandriva : /etc/printcap.local

    5-2. Edit the file according to your connection

    # For USB Connection (Default)
    Check if the parameter of ":lp" is ":lp=/dev/usb/lp0"
    Exapmle "

    Very confused it is a usb inkjet printer how can i do this in terminal everything i do does nothing.
    The printer shows up in the main printer but if i try to use it it goes to cups looking for the driver and its not there.
    Tnx
